Heavy rain damages large sections of road in Thua Thien-Hue

Torrential rain caused landslides along several sections of road in Thua Thien-Hue Province.

Torrential rain caused landslides along several sections of road along National Highway 49B and Ho Chi Minh Highway in Thua Thien-Hue Province.

Almost impossible road

Meteorologists said that the rains on September 21-26 were likely caused by Storm No. 4, named Haitang. The landslides took down a number of trees, further affecting traffic.

The section linking Pe Ke Pass in Hong Van Commune to A Roang Commune was especially hard hit, with large cracks appearing and mud blocking the route.

However, the local authority has timely dealt with the situation to ensure traffic, said Nguyen Quoc Cuong, Vice Chairman of A Luoi District, said that authorities worked quickly to make sure everything got back to normal as soon as possible.

On September 26, National Highway 49B and Ho Chi Minh Highway were reopened to traffic. The official said, the district had 10 tonnes of rice, 50,000 packets of instant noodles and 36,000 litres of petroleum in store for emergency. Today, September 27, the district will receive additional 20 tonnes of rice from the province to support residents.
