The Vietnamese government has just issued a decree to impose a fine of up to VND50 million (US$2,400) on those who distribute spam SMS advertising fortune-telling and gambling services.
The decree also puts down a fine between VND10 million to VND20 million for those who illegally leak personal information of telecom users and a fine between VND30 million and VND50 million for those who unlawfully sell and exchange personal information of telecom users.
Last May before the decree was issued, Hanoi-based company EMOBI was fined VND70 million (US$3,500) for sending spam SMS to users’ cell phones to advertise their fortune-telling and gambling services.
