Vietnam selects rising stars at Sao Mai singing contest

The final round of Sai Mai music competition 2011 wrapped up in the central city of Hue with top prizes being awarded.

Dao Thi To Loan, Luong Nguyet Anh and Doan Thuy Trang are the top winners

The final round of Sai Mai music competition 2011 wrapped up in the central city of Hue on September 4 with top prizes being awarded.

Dao Thi To Loan, from Hanoi, won the first prize in the chamber music category, with Luong Nguyet Anh from Bac Giang Province winning first prize for folk music and Doan Thuy Trang from Hanoi taking the award for light music.

Each of the winners were also granted VND30 million (USD1,439) in prize money.

Three runners-up in the categories were awarded VND20 million (USD960) each.

Nguyen Thi Phuong Thanh from Nghe An Province won the audience-selected favourite prize worth VND10 million (USD480).

Two contestants, Nguyen Tran Trung Quan and Thieu Bao Trang, won the Potential Awards.

Nguyen Thi Binh Hong, from Hanoi, won an award for the best rendition of a Hue song.

The competition judged contestants based on their singing ability, appearance and style.
