Nguyen Hoang Hoat, a passenger of Vietnam Airlines, was fined VND15 million for opening an emergency exit while the plane was in the air.

According to the inspection agency of the Ministry of Transport, Hoat is a manual worker from the northern city of Haiphong. He opened an emergency exit on flight ATR72-VNB225, from Haiphong to Danang on July 26.

The flight crew, No. VN7671, made a report of the incident to the Northern Airports Authority, and Hoat was fined VND15 million (USD727) for violating regulations on civil aviation security. The fine must be paid by August 19.

In an earlier incident, Nguyen Van Tuan, from the northern province of Quang Ninh, was seized after claiming he was carrying a bomb during flight No.VN1189 from Haiphong to HCM City. Tuan was fined VND10 million (USD485), and the flight was delayed for several hours.
