Dung received 95% of the vote in the 500-strong National Assembly, winning a second consecutive term to work as the Prime Minister. Dung became Prime Minister in June, 2006.
Dung was the sole candidate for the position for the 2011-2016 term and was nominated by newly-elected President Truong Tan Sang on the morning of July 25.
NA delegates recommended that the Prime Minister focus on curbing inflation, ensuring social welfare, maintain growth and help struggling companies.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Doan was also re-voted as Vice President and Mr. Truong Hoa Binh was re-elected as the Tribunal President of the Supreme People’s Court.
Nguyen Hoa Binh was elected as the Director of the Supreme People’s Procuracy, replacing Tran Quoc Vuong.
The 13th NA has completed election of leaders for executive, legislative and judicial agencies. The leaders will continue preparing their proposals for submission to the NA for approval next week.
Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung was born on November 17, 1949, in Ca Mau City, Ca Mau Province. He was a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam from the 6th to 10th CPV Central Committee, and Politburo member during the 8th, 9th and 10th CPV Central Committee, Secretary of the Government Party Organisation, and NA member during the 10th, 11th, 12th and 13th National Assembly.
Prior to becoming Prime Minister, he held other roles, including Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Deputy Secretary of the Government Party Organisation, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister, Head of the State Steering Committee for Key National Projects and Head of the Party Central Committee for Crime Prevention and Control.
