A number of Hanoi sidewalks have been dug up for brick replacement, making them look like construction sites.

Drain covers and manholes
This situation has lasted for more than a week, affecting the lives of local residents as well as city aesthetics. Some of these streets were already worked on two months ago, but are undergoing another overhaul.
Tran Hung Dao Street is full of bricks and stone, forcing walkers find paths around the piles of rubble.
Mr. Minh, owner of a tea stall on the street, complained "It\'s incredible! Within only two months, the street has been dug up two times to replace the path with the same kind of bricks!"
Mr. Son, who sells lottery tickets on the street, also wondered about the activity, saying that the pavement showed no signs of wear. He thinks that, not only is it a waste, but it also negatively impacts the people who live and work there.
Lieutenant-General Nguyen Duc Nhanh, Director of Hanoi Police Department, said "Many sidewalks have been undergoing such maintenance for several years. Recently, while going down Tran Hung Dao Street, I noticed they were digging in order to install some sort of underground works."
"This is quite unusual, municipal traffic inspectors must investigate the situation," he added.
