Vietnam secures 7 medals at international academic contests

Vietnam bagged 7 medals at two international science contests in Taiwan and Turkey, said an agency from the Ministry of Education and Training.

Vietnam bagged 7 medals at two international science contests that have just wrapped up in Taiwan and Turkey, according to the department of educational testing and quality assessment under the Ministry of Education and Training.

Mai Sy Tuan, who led the Vietnamese delegation at the 22nd International Biology Olympiad closing Sunday in Taipei, said his students won 3 bronze medals at the competition.

The three bronze medalists are Nguyen Trung Kien, a 12th-grader at High School for the Gifted under Hanoi National University of Education, Truong Thi Phuong Thao, a 12-grader at Le Quy Don Specialized High School in Da Nang City, and Nguyen Thu Trang, an 11th-grader at Le Hong Phong Specialized High School in Nam Dinh Province.

Four other Vietnamese students collected 2 silver medals and 2 bronze medals at the 43rd International Chemistry Olympiad concluding Monday in Ankara.

The first two medals went to Tran Thi Ngoc Quy, a 12th-grader at High School for the Gifted in Ho Chi Minh City, and Pham Dang Huy, an 11th-grader at Tran Phu Specialized High School in Hai Phong City.

The other two were awarded to 12-grader Pham Minh Duc from Hanoi – Amsterdam Specialized High School and Vo Duy Viet, a 12th-grader at Le Quy Don Specialized High School in Binh Dinh Province.

Students from 58 countries participated in the first Olympiad while 72 countries sent their students to the second.

Vietnamese students also won 5 medals in the 42nd International Physics Olympiad held between July 10 and 18 in Bangkok, Thailand.
