The department’s decision rubber-stamped the Vietnam Football Federation’s (VFF) invitation to invite Goetz to come to Hanoi next week to finalise his two-year contract to manage the national team.

According to Head of the department Vuong Bich Thang, if discussions with Goetz are successfully concluded, the former Herta Berlin coach will begin training the team from June, with the German’s hefty USD22,000 monthly salary partially supplemented by the General Department of Sport and Physical Training.

Goetz’s first task is helping Vietnam’s U23’s realise their dream of winning the 26th SEA Games trophy.

The department also ratified the VFF’s appointment of a temporary coaching board to lead the national team in the qualifying rounds for the 2014 World Cup. The board will also be responsible for Vietnam’s booking of a berth at the London Olympics 2012.
