Cimigo, an independent team of marketing and brand research has released the 2011 Vietnam NetCitizens Report on the country’s internet usage and development.
The report is based on a representative survey including nearly 3,400 internet users in 6 Vietnamese cities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Danang, Haiphong, Nha Trang and Can Tho.
According to the report, about 31 percent of Vietnam’s population uses the internet and nearly two-thirds of them spend more than two hours daily online.
Forty percent have access to the internet via mobile phone or smart phone. However, the age group of 15 and 24 uses this service twice as much as those aged between 35 and 49.
Internet usage on mobile phones in the northern region is higher than in the central and southern regions.
Most users surf the internet to collect information or read the news. The most popular online newspapers are Dan Tri, VnExpress, 24h and Tuoi Tre. Google is the favorite search engine while listening to music, watching movies and playing games are common entertainment activities.
