Made by firms in Vietnam , the eight tonnes of relief supplies worth USD150,000 included clothes, towels, socks and disposable chopsticks.

Later the same day, Vietnamese Ambassador to Japan Nguyen Phu Binh officially donated the relief to Secretary of State for the Japanese Foreign Ministry Yutaka Banno.

Banno thanked the Vietnamese Government and people for their valuable help to victims in northeastern Japan , affirming that the aid represented essential goods for people in disaster-hit areas.

Apart from the Vietnamese Government’s USD200,000 donation to Japan , many organisations and individuals in Vietnam have been making donations to Japanese victims via different channels, such as the Vietnam Red Cross and the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam , Ambassador Binh said.

The Vietnam Red Cross alone has raised VND121 billion (USD5.84 million) to help the Japanese victims.
