The stations, the first of their kind in Vietnam, are expected to help warn people in Danang in case of tsunamis, coming from the East Sea, 30 minutes in advance.
Two of the stations will be installed at Man Thai, in Son Tra District and Hoa Hiep Nam, in Lien Chieu District. They will be equipped with antennas reaching a height of 30-35 metres and high powered sirens.
At the first sign of any tsunami alert, the stations will warn the surrounding area with these sirens. This should give anyone who might be near the water or in a boat some extra time to get to safety.
An additional 100 tsunami warning stations will be set up in the central region in the coming years. This is part of a project to create a nationwide tsunami warning system.
