He said the country will continue to focus on its traditional labour export markets like Taiwan, Japan, South Korea and Malaysia, adding a combined 50,000 people will be sent to these destinations.

Meanwhile, labour agencies have reported that they have been signing contracts to send large amounts of workers overseas from the beginning of 2011.

The Air Service and Trading Joint Stock Company (Airseco) has just signed a contract to provide 100 groundkeepers for golf courses in Japan over the next three years, according to General Director Nguyen Xuan Vui.

The workers are scheduled to be sent to Japan by the end of the first quarter this year. They will receive monthly salaries of between VND36-40 million (USD1,800-USD2,000) in the first year. The salary will be increased over the next two years.

Also in the first quarter of the year, the International Human Resources Cooperation Centre, part of the Transport Construction and Investment JSC (Tranconsin), will send 300 workers to work for Saudi Airlines.

Tranconsin Director Pham Duc An said that the workers will get monthly salaries of USD200-USD300 each, excluding overtime payments, and acommodation will be provided.

The International Manpower Supply and Trade Company (Sona) is selecting 267 workers to work in the construction sector in Libya.

Under the contract, the new employees will have their airfares and accommodation paid for plus a monthly salary of six million dong.

According to the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, more than half million Vietnamese workers are working in 40 countries and territories, sending home nearly USD2 billion every year.
