The diplomat made the statement at an interview with VGP’s correspondent on Monday in Hanoi.
With total output of 400 million tons a year, coffee is one of the key farm produce in Vietnam, with an annual export turnover of over US $1 billion.
Statistics show that Vietnam is destined to a sustainable coffee production, noted Ambassador Joao de Mendonca Lima Neto.
However, he suggested that Vietnam needs a strategy to closely combine coffee producers with commercial businesses to work out proper ways for improving the quality of coffee products, developing domestic market, and promoting Vietnamese coffee trademark in world.
Regarding the 3rd Buon Ma Thuot Coffee Festival which is scheduled on March 10-13 this year, the Ambassador said that is a good opportunity for Vietnamese coffee to publicize its image to the outside world.
It is also a good chance for businesses from Vietnam and Brazil, the two important coffee producers in the world, to meet and exchange views on coffee development and coffee culture, the Ambassador added.
Ambassador Joao de Mendonca Lima Neto pledged to call on Brazilian enterprises to joint the event and speed up cooperation with Vietnamese partners.
