The Ministry of Health has issued a fresh swine-flu warning after four new cases were detected in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City last week.
In HCMC, two women in District 8 and a 24-year-old woman who returned from a trip to Malaysia last Wednesday have been infected.
A 24-year-old pregnant woman tested positive for the A/H1N1 virus after being admitted to the Hanoi-based Central Hospital for Tropical Diseases last Friday with fever and cough.
She is now in stable condition, doctors said, adding her relatives are being closely monitored for signs of infection.
Nguyen Van Binh, the chief of the Ministry\'s Preventive Health Department, said since October there had been an upward trend in the number of A/H1N1 flu cases.
Earlier, only the odd case had been reported every few months but now one to three cases are reported every month in Hanoi and HCMC, he said.
The virus may spread very quickly in winter, he warned.
Last year, eight out of 183 people who contracted swine flu in Vietnam died.
It took the number of fatalities, since the disease claimed its first victim in May 2009, to 61, and infections to 11,305.
