This year’s flower festival in Ho Chi Minh City hopes to attract many visitors with a rich assortment of blossoms.

Phu My Hung Spring Flower Festival 2011 will also feature a contest of special Vietnamese flowers and ornamental trees.
Nguyen Thien Tich, Vice Chairman of the municipal Association of Orchids and Ornamental Trees, said that the event, scheduled for January 26, should bring guests from all over, and will be the first of its kind to exhibit the unique beauty of Vietnamese flora.
Along with the contest of flowers and ornamental trees, this week-long festival will also include other activities such as a ceremony to release flowers, garlands and lanterns to float onto Ban Nguyet Lake, making for an extremely romantic atmosphere.
As well as the contest of orchids and adeniums, the festival will also host art performance in the evenings.
This festival hopes to attract around 500 booths, displaying and all sorts of flowers, plants, birds, fish ceramic ware and calligraphy. The majority of these products will have been produced in the city and outlying areas.
In 2009, Phu My Hung Spring Flower Festival drew more than 240,000 visitors.
