National Party Congress to be held next month

The 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam will take place in January 12, 2011 in Hanoi.

The 11th National Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) will take place in January 12, 2011 in Hanoi and last for nine days to decide the nation’s top issues, according to a senior official.

The National Congress is a great political event for the Party, State and people of Vietnam, said Mr. Pham Xuan Son, Vice Chairman of the Commission of External Affairs under the CPV Central Committee at a press briefing with heads of diplomatic delegations and international organizations.

According to Mr. Son, around 1,400 delegates representing for 3.6 million party members from both inside and outside Vietnam will gather at the upcoming National Party Congress.

On the basis of wide consensus and high determination, the Party selected the theme for the National Congress: “Continuing the Party’s leadership and fighting capacity, upholding national strength, comprehensively spurring the renovation, laying the foundations for Vietnam to become a modern industrialized country by 2020.”

Especially, the Congress will discuss and ratify important documents including the 10-year development strategy (2011-2020) and vote the top-ranking leaders.

In the five-year period of 2011-2015, Vietnam will strive for an annual GDP growth rate of 7-8% and a higher income per capita of over US $2,100 by 2015 which is 1.7 times higher than 2010.
