Hotline allows children to call for help

The hotline for Vietnamese children in need will operate around the clock from December 2010.

To better take care of children, the hotline, which can be reached by dialing: 18001567, will increase its time of service from 14 hours to 24 hours per day.

Vietnamese children will get more help with 18001567 service.

The hotline will diversify its services which will include postal service, email, live therapy, and more so that all children can easily access the services. Moreover, the hotline will also provide more measures to protect some unfortunate child groups including the disabled, children in remote areas and victims of human trafficking.

With the support from the international humanitarian organisation Plan Vietnam, the Department of Children Protection and Care under the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA) will be responsible for the hotline operation and making it an efficient tool to protect children nationwide.

The hotline in Vietnam is the 52nd to join the Child Helpline International (CHI), a global network of telephone helplines and services for children and young people. Children from 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam can make free phone calls to get information and support to address psychological and physical problems or gain access to relevant organisations or agencies.

The hotline was set up earlier this year under a deal signed by the MoLISA and Plan Organization in Vietnam.

The hotline upgrade is the third phase of a telephone consultancy program which started on May 19, 2004.

The two sides plan to speed up awareness campaigns in order to help all Vietnamese children gain access to the hotline’s consultancy.
