This is the fifth flood to slam the central region in the last month.

According to the provincial board of flood and storm control, search and rescue, Hue City has been hit hardest with 25,000 houses out of the province’s total number of 27,000 homes are submerged. Other districts of Quang Dien, Huong Tra and Phong Dien are also seriously suffering. People in the water zones have to travel by boats.

More than 100,000 pupils at 270 schools in Phong Dien, Quang Dien, Huong Tra, Phu Vang, Huong Thuy and Hue City have been told to skip school to ensure safety.

Nguyen Dai vui, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Phong Dien District, said many households in Phong Thu, Phong Hoa, Phong Chuong and Phong Binh communes situated along rivers are still 0.3-0.5 metres underwater.

In the evening of November 16, water levels in the three main rivers of Huong, Bo and O Lau rivers in Nam Dong District continued rising due to big rainfalls.

The province has prepared to relocate over 8,000 homes to safer areas.
