Vietnam’s socio-economic achievements over the past five years will be celebrated during a special exhibition from October 1-6.

Titled “Celebrating the country’s renovation and Hanoi’s 1,000th anniversary”, the exhibition aims at showing the latest and most prominent achievements of Vietnam in various fields including industry-trade-investment; diplomatic-foreign cooperation; defence-security; agriculture-rural development; culture-sports-tourism; science-technology-environment; construction-traffic; education-training; social security; information-communication; finance-banking.

According to Deputy Minister Huynh Vinh Ai from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism who is also head of the organising board, since this exhibition coincides with the 1,000 year anniversary of Hanoi, it will be much more impressive this year.

Chairing the press conference held today in Hanoi, Ai also revealed that the opening ceremony at 8pm on October 1 will consist of a salute with 12 guns, a fantastic dragon performance and many other performances by professional artists from Hanoi’s folk troupes and circus, and more.

“We will invite 21 provinces and 20 ministries and departments who will represent the whole country to come and introduce their best features, products as well as their own achievements,” he said.

There will also be a large area for exhibiting photos of the old and modern Hanoi, with its rich culture and history and a robust energy to develop into a centre of politics, culture and economy of Vietnam past and present.

Adding to Ai’s introduction, Tran Van Tan, Director General of the Vietnam Exhibition and Fair Center (VEFAC) and deputy head of the organising board stressed that this will not be a commercial exhibition. “We are still having enterprises there to introduce their products but we will focus on introducing the achievements of the whole country as well as various performances to celebrate the capital\'s anniversary.”

The exhibition on the country’s achievements has been held every five years since 1975. It is a review of the development process of the country over a 5-year period. The 2010 exhibition will be held at the Vietnam Exhibition and Fair Center, 148 Giang Vo Street, Hanoi.
