Vietnam hammer attack leaves victims in critical condition

Seven people were injured when an employee at a printing company allegedly attacked his boss's family with a hammer, police said Monday.

Seven people were injured when an employee at a printing company allegedly attacked his boss\'s family with a hammer, police said Monday.

The attack took place Sunday in the Binh Tri Dong B neighbourhood of Ho Chi Minh City, a local police source said.

Police said they believed the accused attacker, Duong Van Noi, 30, had quarreled with his employer, the director of a card-printing company, one of four victims now in a critical condition.

A witness said he was sleeping at the company premises when he was awoken by cries for help, the police newspaper An Ninh Thu Do reported. He said he found four people lying on the floor bleeding from their heads while Nuoi was trying to break down a glass door to attack a woman and her 13-year-old son.

\'The 13-year-old luckily escaped death, but his mother is in critical condition,\' police said.

Police said Nuoi attempted to commit suicide by hitting himself on the head with a hammer but only slightly injured himself.

A co-worker said he doubted there had been a quarrel. \'He may just be a madman,\' the co-worker said.
