The 4th Annual Environmental Film Festival opened for participation today in Hanoi.

The organisational board, which includes the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, Vietnam Television and Vietnam Film Association, are calling for organisations and individuals across Vietnam, who are interested in environmental issues, to take part in the festival. They are encouraged to send their celluloid films, documentaries, scientific films, feature films and cartoons which focus on environmental issues, including environmental violation cases, problems and examples of initiatives and people famous for environmental protection.

According to Nguyen Thai Lai, deputy minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, submitted works should concentrate on featuring the present situation of the country’s environment and introducing individuals or organizations with their protection activities.

“There will be no time limit for submissions,” said Nguyen Thi Hong Ngat, vice chairman of the Vietnam Film Association and member of the organisational board. “Besides the Green Vietnam Award like last years’ festivals, there will be first, second, third and consolation prizes for each genre,” Ngat said. “In addition, individuals and organisations with large numbers of entries will also receive a certificate of merit.”

“The winning piece will be used for promoting environmental protection in Vietnam,” Lai added.

The deadline for entries is November 20 and the awards ceremony is scheduled for December.
