Textile company discharges waste into Red River

Environmental police from Phu Tho Province have found a Korean-owned company discharging untreated waste water into the Red (Hong) River in Viet Tri City.

The Pangrim Neotex textile company was discharging around 1,000cu.m of untreated waste water into the biggest river in northern Viet Nam, said the provincial Police\'s Environmental Police Bureau head, Ngo Quy Trieu.

"A sample of the waste water discharged from the company was sent to the provincial Department of Natural Resources and Environment for testing to define the company\'s level of violation," he said.

Yoon Wou Suk, a representative from the company, had admitted to the company\'s wrongdoing, Trieu said.

The provincial People\'s Committee fined the company VND23 million ($1,173) last year for violating environmental regulations.
