The death of an ill and abandoned baby girl has touched the hearts of thousands of Dan Tri/DTiNews readers.

Born with multiple serious birth defects, Nhan Ai was abandoned by her parents over half a year ago at the age of just one month. Doctors and nurses at Ho Chi Minh City’s Children Hospital 2 had since taken her under their arms and cared for her.
After this story was originally broken by DTiNews’ Vietnamese source (Dan Tri), thousands of readers either called up to ask about the child or went directly to the hospital to donate money and gifts. Over the phone, many, both domestic and overseas, expressed that they were in tears and poured their hearts out for the struggling child.
Dan Tri also found the parents who abandoned their child, but to the shock of us and our readers, the couple still decided not to take her back.
For months, compassionate readers contributed billions of dong (hundreds of thousands of dollars) in cash and many gifts and items to help with the treatment and care of Nhan Ai. Her health development was reported almost everyday on Dan Tri, and many readers have become emotionally attached to the little girl, considering themselves extended family. They left comments sharing her pain, expressing the joy when her health was reportedly getting better, and wishing her the best.
Sadly, after 10 months of suffering, Nhan Ai passed away on September 6. Thousands of readers have either contacted us or left comments on our the Dan Tri site, expressing their grief. Many said they burst into tears. Some said Nhan Ai is a little angel sent to Earth to bring people closer together and awaken their compassion.
For 10 months in this world, Nhan Ai did not have a chance to learn how to crawl or speak like a normal child. Instead, she suffered from pain in the chest, infected skin, and the difficulty breathing. However, for the last two months, she received the warmth and kindness brought about by thousands of people.
One reader wrote: "Our little angel has left us for heaven. May you have a peaceful afterlife. We will never forget you. The look of your little eyes will stay with us forever."
Dan Tri\'s representative office in Ho Chi Minh City took care of Nhan Ai\'s funeral. Her body was cremated and her ashes have been preserved at Nhu Lai Pagoda in the city. Many readers attended the funeral. All donations left behind that were intended for Nhan Ai will be used by the Compassionate Hearts Charity Fund to help children suffering similar circumstances and hardship.
