
The 2010-2011 school year is the first year the Ministry of Education and Training will implement a pilot project for teaching foreign languages in Vietnam through 2020.
During the three days from September 3-5, provinces and cities nationwide organised ceremonies to mark the beginning of the new academic year. Party and State leaders, local authorities, and heads of agencies and organisations, attended the ceremonies and congratulated more than 21.78 million pupils and students and over 1 million teachers on the occasion.
The new school year will focus on the task to continue renewing educational management and increase education quality. The education sector will focus on implementing five major tasks to renovate educational management; increase the quality and effectiveness of education; train teachers and education managers; renew finances for the education sector; and develop better networks for schools, educational equipment and children’s toys.
Under the pilot project, foreign language teaching programmes will be implemented in 100 primary schools across the country. The project aims to help Vietnamese pupils and students communicate in foreign languages to improve their competitiveness in the current context of globalization and multi-cultural integration.
