A National Assembly delegation led by Chairman Nguyen Phu Trong will attend a meeting of G20 country parliamentary speakers in Canada and pay an official visit to Cuba from September 2-7.
According to the NA Committee for External Relations, the visits were arranged following invitations from Speaker of the Canadian Senate Noel Kinsella and Cuban NA Chairman Ricardo Alarcon De Quesada.
Chairman of the National Assembly\'s External Relations Committee Nguyen Van Son said the meeting in Canada would focus on issues related to the global economic crisis and recovery, including co-operation in food production and distribution, new models of peace and security, and economic and financial models that can foster global economic stability.
This would be a chance for Vietnam, as chair of the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) this year, to boost relations with Canada and other countries as well as heighten its position in the international arena, he said.
Meanwhile, he added, the visit to Cuba would also play an important role in confirming the unity and support of Viet Nam for Cuba and bringing the relations between Vietnam and Cuba to a new height.
