Police catch four officials accepting bribes red-handed

Quang Ngai police arrested four state auditors for accepting bribes on August 14.

These auditors had been working in Quang Ngai Province for over a month. They were responsible for inspecting several construction projects in the province which have used government bonds.

Initial investigation results revealed that the four auditors had requested the investors and contractors give them a bribe so that they would not report violations. At the Di Lang-Tra Trung route construction, the contractors claim they were asked to give the auditors VND500 million ($25,717).

These contractors came to Hung Vuong Hotel, where the auditors were staying, around noon on August 14, to give them the bribe. The auditors were caught in the act of taking VND290 million ($14,916) out of the VND500 million ($25,717).

In addition, the police had searched and found another VND600 million ($30,861) in their hotel room.

These state auditors were to report to the leaders of the People’s Committee of Quang Ngai Province about their auditing results on the afternoon of August 14.

The police are continuing their investigation.
