Having a rare disease known as Epidermolysis Bullosa since birth, Duy Phuoc’s body is constantly suffering from wounds and pain and his family struggles to get him medicine.
His condition has worsened recently. Many patches of skin on his body have formed blisters that have broken. The pain has entirely overwhelmed his mobility because he only lies in one place all the time. If he turns over, the mat he rests on will stick to his back.
When skin hasn’t yet been formed to cover the wounds, it falls off. Thus, blood and pus have been slowly oozing. Phuoc cries softly, speechless because of the pain. Along wounds all over his body, he also has a high temperature. However, his family can’t afford to bring him to the hospital; he only takes medicine at home.
Despite the painful disease, his brain has developed normally like other children. As if he knows his fate, he always responds to his family’s calls of, “Phuoc, take your medicine darling,” even when he is exhausted. He has to carefully turn over and take the medicine (a bitter one).
“When the pain is not so bad, he toddles around the house but he finds it hard to step. Each time he falls over to the ground, he uses his hands to support his body to stand up. This makes the skin of his two hands orm blisters that are easily broken. If we want to hold him up, we also have to be very careful because his skin is so fragile that it can be peeled by the slightest touch,” Mr Dang Van Rau, Phuoc\'s grandfather, said when sharing of his family’s difficulties in taking care of his grandchild.
Although his parents really want to stay by his side to take care of him, they still have to go to work. With the money his parents earn, they are only able to afford about 10 days worth of medicine each month.
Upon receiving the amount of money donated by DTiNews’ readers, Mrs Thanh Thao, Phuoc\'s mother, was so touched that she couldn’t say a word.
On behalf of the family, the grandfather of Duy Phuoc expressed his deep gratitude for the support of DTiNews and all the kind people who donated. “We have brought him to many hospitals but many doctors says that this disease can’t be cured entirely. If we are able to give him good conditions and medicine, the pain of his disease may partially be relieved. The amount of money donated will be used to treat Duy Phuoc’s disease.”
On behalf of the local authorities, Mr Huynh Hong Hai also thanked DTiNews and readers who have supported the poor situation and the fatal disease of this family.
