Hanoi’s golf course development to undergo environmental review

The Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment has begun conducting a review of 19 golf course projects in Hanoi.

The Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment began conducting a review of 19 golf course projects in Hanoi August 4.

3 of those projects are in operating, 4 are under construction, 1 has just been completed and 11 were rejected.

Inspectors from the Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment have started developing their report over implementing laws on environment, land and water resource protection for the 19 proposed and existing golf course projects. Furthermore, the Ministry will also give out instructions and provide was to strengthen environment, land and water resource conservation to be carried out by government agencies that are in charge of managing these projects as well as their investors.

To Van Dap, Leader of the inspection team, said that the investigation results would show the current state of executing laws to protect the environment, land and water resources as well as the business effectiveness of these projects. After that, they would have appropriate solutions to improve the state’s management of these issues.

The inspectors are now working on the content and collecting relevant documents with the People’s Committee of Hanoi and Hanoi’s Department of Natural Resources & Environment. In addition, they also need to coordinate with Hanoi’s Department of Planning & Investment and Hanoi’s Department of Construction to get necessary documents for their report.

Nguyen Huu Nghia, Vice Director of the Hanoi Department of Natural Resources & Environment suggested checking only projects approved by the government to continue their operation and projects approved to commence their golf course construction in Hanoi.

However, Pham Chi Cong, Vice Head of the Office of the People’s Committee of Hanoi recommended checking all 19 golf course projects including 8 approved ones and 11 projects which need to be re-evaluated and re-zoned for other possible commercial interests, before they could be approved.
