Ho Chi Minh City is keen to kick start river tours along its historic banks. A new tour to a painting village along the Sai Gon River in the southern hub’s District 2 will get underway in September to inaugurate the Sai Gon- Cu Chi- Binh Duong route. The route is part of the city’s plan to develop riverside tourism over the next ten years.
At present, a few operators are offering short tours. The Ben Nghe-Nha Be and Bach Dang-Binh Quoi routes have proved popular with the introduction of six floating restaurants and three yachts.
Medium-distance tours on offer include the Sai Gon- Dong Nai- Sai Gon- Binh Duong and Bach Dang- Cu Chi routes while long-distance tours run from Ho Chi Minh to a few Mekong Delta provinces, as well as Phnom Penh and Shihanoukville in Cambodia.
