Conson wreaking havoc in northern Vietnam

Tropical Storm Conson has made a landfall in several northern provinces of Vietnam, threatening to wreak havoc deep into the country\'s land.

Tropical Storm Conson has made a landfall in several northern provinces of Vietnam late Saturday, causing high tides and heavy rain and threatened to wreak havoc deep into the country\'s land.

At 7:30pm, sea water started to flood Cat Hai island, off the coast of Hai Phong Province. Before that, strong winds tore the roofs off a school and 2 houses on the island. At least three tourist boats and one fishing boat were sunkened, 14 crew members were rescued. Three person in Hai Phong city was injured due to the fall of a tree. 97 houses in the city had their roofs blown away.

When the storm reached Quang Ninh Province at around 3pm, strong winds caused several motorbikes to crash on Bai Chay Bridge, prompting local authorities to seal off the bridge from traffic for several hours.

In the capital city of Hanoi, heavy rain is forecast throughout the night and fear of floods is imminent.
