From July 7 to 9, a fire broke out at Team 1, Lam Son Forestry Company and several fires occurred in Lang Bop forest, Phuc Son Commune, Anh Son District.
Consequently, dozens of hectares of forest were destroyed despite efforts from soldiers, police and local people.
At the same time, 13 hectares of Cao Veu forest were burned however, this blaze was quickly extinguished by local firefighters.
At present, forest fires in Anh Son District have been occurring at an overwhelming rate.
Speaking to DTiNews about the fires in Anh Son District, Vo Thi Hong Lam, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Anh Son District said, “After receiving a report about fires, firefighting forces and nearly 1,000 soldiers, police and local people battled the blazes under the direction of district leaders. It took a whole day to put out the fires.”
“We usually discuss fire prevention and response in weekly meetings. However, the blazes have been spreading very strongly and quickly under this weather. Forests in Anh Son District are very susceptible to fires because leaves of most of trees are very dry. Thus, all communes having forests in the district are supposed to give out warnings about potential blazes,” added Lam.
Additionally, on July 11, another forest at Quynh Luu District caught fire. Fortunately, it was put out within only an hour thanks to the help of over 500 local people. Nearly 3 hectares of forest were damaged.
According to Phan Thanh Ky, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Quynh Hoa Commune, the fire appears to have been started on purpose, probably caused by a conflict or an attempt at revenge between civilians. Currently, the police are investigating the causes.
Notably, there were 4 blazes within one month in the mountainous district of Tuong Duong. Burning off fields for cultivation has led to the fires. Residents did not conduct the burning process in a proper manner. As a result, the flames spread into the forest.
