Workers from Vietnam and Thailand’s three provinces of Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan and Ubon Ratchathani are likely to benefit from a joint labour exchange mechanism.
Authorities of the three provinces told a visiting Vietnamese delegation early July that they would submit the proposal concerning labour cooperation with Vietnam to the Thai government, including the establishment of a labour exchange mechanism.
During the visit, the delegation, led by Vietnamese Ambassador to Thailand Ngo Duc Thang, discussed with the Thai authorities measures of accelerating sub-region cooperation in economy, trade, investment and tourism between provinces in Vietnam and Thailand .
Nakhon Phanom, Mukdahan and Ubon Ratchathani provinces are home to the majority of overseas Vietnamese in Thailand .
During talks with the Vietnamese Ambassador, Thai authorities promised to respect the Vietnamese community in Thailand and create favourable conditions for their life and business.
The three provinces have infrastructure systems that are good enough to create inter-regional cooperation with provinces in Vietnam .
Construction of the third friendship bridge linking Thailand and Laos is underway in Nakhon Phanom. The bridge, set to be completed in August 2011, will create the fastest way for Thai and Vietnamese goods to enter each other’s market via Laos .
Mukdahan also has two bridges linking with Laos , which together with Laos ’ 9 Road create a convenient transport artery to Vietnam .
Ubon Ratchathani, meanwhile, has two infrastructure projects with Central Vietnam, including upgrading of a road linking with Vietnam ’s central province of Quang Nam through Laos ’ Pakse city and resuming an air route from the province to Da Nang city.
During the visit, Ambasador Ngo Duc Thang and his delegation also had meetings with overseas Vietnamese.
