In the lead up to the 1000th anniversary of Hanoi-Thang Long, Hanoi is carrying out several social welfare programmes under which, 80 new schools to national standards will be built this year and 5,500 temporary classrooms will be removed.
The Hanoi municipal Committee has provided the financial resources to rebuild 5,500 dilapidated houses for poor people and has asked different departments, districts and sectors to support the families of social policy beneficiaries and people with revolutionary service. So far, the number of poor households has fallen by 5.4 percent.
The committee also requested relevant agencies to finish off 80 percent of infrastructure work, public lighting and the refurbishment of houses along the streets.
In addition, 38 public toilets have been built and 5,540 wheelie bins have been put in place to keep the streets clean and free of rubbish.
