Wartime artifacts used during conflict have been discovered in the remote area of Son Dao Mountain, Thua Thien - Hue Province, by locals who were tilling their fields at the time.

Items found on Son Dao Mountain on display.
Upon receiving this information, the special task force of Thua Thien Hue Province’s (TTHP) Military Command were immediately sent to the site to survey and examine the items. They had discovered 2 sets of revolutionary martyr remains (not yet identified) and daily-used objects such as brass, a saucepan, aluminum kettle, soldier’s water bottle and military medical tools in the pit.
The special task force also discovered a few caves, which had previously been used as revolutionary bases for Vietnamese soldiers during the American war, along with many important documents such as an urgent appeal note from the National Liberal Front Committee of Central Vietnam to puppet military officers and soldiers in Sai Gon to oppose against the American army and their lackeys, as well as several letters to Vietnamese soldiers who were fighting in the South from their relatives in the North.
Among those letters, one four-paged message still remains 80% intact. It was sent by a female soldier from Dien Chau, Nghe An Province to her relative Phan Thi Nhan, of the BC 300 unit in Thua Thien. The letter describes in details the fighting spirit and notable movements of Nghe An’s women during the fierce anti-American period from 1965 - 1966.
On June 26, a burial ceremony to commemorate the two revolutionary martyrs was carried out at Hue City’s cemetery by TTHP’s Military Command and Hue City’s People’s Committee. The artifacts, discovered along with the martyrs, were taken to the province’s traditional armed force house on the same day.
At present, TTHP’s Military Command is working in coordination with other specialised agencies to further study the documents and artifacts. They have also made a proposal for the caves at Son Dao Mountain to be placed under the management of the State Defense so that more surveys could be undertaken and the revolutionary martyrs tombs be found and war resistance relics be discovered.
