Institute of International Education Associate Director advising students on choosing the right university at the American Center.

A presentation on higher education in the U.S. was held yesterday at the American Center, in which common questions and misconceptions of the U.S. education system were addressed.

Colleges and universities in the U.S., as explained by Sean Donovan, American Center Assistant and host of the presentation, are at the same level with one another. The only difference is colleges offer only undergraduate degrees, while universities offer not only these, but also higher degrees such as Master's degrees and Ph.D degrees.

In the U.S., state universities differ from private universities in the sense that the state establishments ones offer lower tuition fees for U.S. citizens. This however, does not apply to international students, and is either only slightly lower than or equal to private university tuition fees.

Students and parents who come to the Education USA Advising Center will be consulted free of charge on all aspects of studying in the U.S. Nguyen Le Huyen, Education USA Advisor, said that in August, the center will organize meetings with different university representatives from the U.S. for students and parents to directly meet with. Meanwhile, any questions regarding the higher education system in the U.S. can be answered at the center.

The EducationUSA Advising Center is affiliated with the U.S. Department of State and sponsored by the Public Affairs Section of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, located inside the library of the American Center, at the Rose Garden Tower, First Floor, on 170 Ngoc Khanh Street, Hanoi.
