VVAF wheels in donations for disabled

Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) donated 54 wheelchairs to Ha Nam Bureau’s hospital on 25 June.

Vietnam Veterans of America Foundation (VVAF) donated 54 wheelchairs to Ha Nam Bureau’s hospital on 25 June. They will be used by patients with disabilities living in Ha Nam which in the north of Vietnam. All the wheelchairs are multi functional, high quality and have long - term value.

Dr. Nguyen Xuan Quy, Vice Director of Ha Nam Health Bureau said, “This wheelchair distribution event today shows the practical and social values that this project has brought to people with disabilities in Ha Nam Province in particular and in Vietnam in general. It will help lessen their misfortune of disability and help them to be more confident and be able to integrate into society.”

This is the seventh major donation of wheelchairs from the Latter Day Saint Charities (LDSC) to VVAF in Vietnam since 2003. Currently, 2,072 people with mobility impairments have received wheelchairs in 11 northern provinces. LDSC is a private, non-profit, charity agency, registered with the Vietnamese Government and the U.S. Agency for International Development. LDSC offers humanitarian relief through in approximately 150 countries world-wide. One hundred percent of all donations go to relief and development programs. 

This year, through the Dioxin Resolution Initiatives in Vietnam (DRIVE) program, VVAF will distribute about 350 wheelchairs of varying sizes in Hanoi, Thai Binh, Ninh Binh, Ha Nam, Nam Dinh, Da Nang, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam. VVAF also provides a range of other services for disabled individuals through this program, which is supported by the Ford Foundation.
