Government pours $5.3m into drought mitigation

The Government has decided to put aside VND100.1 billion (US$5.3 million) for drought mitigation activities for the winter-spring crop.

Thanh Hoa Province will receive the most, VND15 billion ($794,000), while Yen Bai province will get the least, VND3 billion ($158,000).

Two irrigation works, Bac Hung Hai and Bac Nam Ha, each will be granted VND5 billion ($265,000).

This is the third time this year funds have been provided for drought mitigation.

Last month, the Government contributed VND46.6 billion ($2.5 million) to six northern provinces and VND144.6 billion ($7.65 million) to 13 Cuu Long (Mekong) Delta provinces.

The other provinces to benefit from the latest fund are Ha Giang, Thai Nguyen and Phu Tho in the northeast; Hai Phong, Bac Ninh and Ninh Binh in the Hong (Red) River Delta; Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri in the northern central and Binh Dinh in the southern central coast of Vietnam.
