DHL, showing it means business in the region, announced the appointment of Adrian Shou to be its new Managing Director of DHL Global Forwarding in Vietnam and a US$1.5 million plan to build a new "DHL Distribution Center and Inland Container Depot" in Song Than, Binh Duong.
The move shows DHL's extreme interest in Vietnam and Southeast Asia. As DHL Global Forwarding CEO for the South Asia Pacific, Amadou Diallo, pointed out, "Vietnam is a key market for us. (We) have many plans for this market."
Song Than is located in a strategically significant area, just 20km from Ho Chi Minh City. Paul Graham, CEO, DHL Supply Chain Asia Pacific, said, “Our investment in the new facility signals DHL Supply Chain’s commitment to Vietnam, and confidence in the dynamic and growing economy. With the government’s projected GDP growth of 6.5-7%, our investment will further strengthen the range of world-class solutions available to businesses operating in Vietnam.”
DHL is the world's leading logistics company and has said that the new distribution center will be built according to DHL’s Global quality standards and is designed to be environmentally-friendly.
DHL also recently opened the "DHL Fashion and Apparel Center for Excellence" in Ho Chi Minh City and it is the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. The company has pledged more than US$10 million over five years in Vietnam and is playing a major role in connecting China and Vietnam with its "Cross-border Trucking Service".
