Vietnam attends global conference on oceans, coasts and islands

The Vietnamese delegation attended the 5th Global Conference on Oceans, Coasts and Islands in France with the participation of over 700 delegates from 80 countries.

The Vietnamese delegation led by Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Pham Khoi Nguyen attended the 5th Global Conference on Oceans, Coasts and Islands in France from May 3-7 with the participation of over 700 delegates from 80 countries.

Being a coastal country and one of the nations affected most severely by climate change, Vietnam is aware of the importance of sea and coastal areas in its sustainable development programs. Therefore, the Vietnamese Government and people are striving to mitigate negative impacts of climate change and the sea level rise, Minister Nguyen said at the conference.

On the sidelines of the conference, Minister Nguyen stated that Vietnam desires to raise voice together with other coastal countries and those having seas and call for the international community to take urgent and specific actions to deal with climate change and sea level rise.

The country is also ready to learn experience in managing seas and islands as well as coping with climate change.
