Woman requests to be taken into custody

The wife of the man responsible for the torturing of a young boy was arrested by the police in Ca Mau Province.

Ma Ngoc Thom, the wife of the man responsible for the torturing of a young boy, was arrested by police of Dam Doi District, Ca Mau Province on May 8.

Earlier, Ma Ngoc Thom and her husband Huynh Thanh Giang were charged with the crimes of "intentionally causing injuries" and "torture".

Giang has been in custody while his wife was out on bail because she had to tend to her baby who is under 36 months of age.

However, while Giang was staying at home at the Minh Duc Shrimp Farm in Dam Doi District, she has been confronted by hundreds of local people who were very furious about her inhumane actions and have wanted to send her a message.

She asked police of Dam Doi District to escort her to private home at 100/3 Bui Thi Truong, Ward 5, Ca Mau City, where public response was the same. Many people wanted to inflict physical harm to her. She sent her child to her hometown at Hung My, Cai Nuoc, Ca Mau and requested to be taken into custody.

According to Le Thanh Liem, Head of the Public Mobilisation cum Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front's Central Committee of Dam Doi District, a meeting was held on May 8 to review responsibilities of officials in Phu Hiep Hamlet, Ngoc Chanh Commune, Dam Doi District, Ca Mau. They all said that they did not know anything about Hao Anh’s case.

Doan Quoc Khoi, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Dam Doi District said that the Praise and Punishment Council of Dam Doi District would decide penalties in accordance with the review’s results.
