ASEAN seeks ways to enrich military cooperation

The third meeting of the Track 2 Network of ASEAN Defense and Security Institutions opened in Ho Chi Minh City

The third meeting of the Track 2 Network of ASEAN Defense and Security Institutions (NADI-3) under the theme “Enhancing ASEAN defense cooperation in emerging security issues in the Southeast Asian region” opened in Ho Chi Minh City on April 20.

Participants to the meeting focused their discussions on issues relating to guideline and policy on national defense and security of each ASEAN member state and the bloc as well.

They also deliberated on key measures to expand cooperation among the member states’ armies in coping effectively with non-traditional security challenges like sea security, natural disaster and humanitarian relief.

The meeting is an annual event, which provides the region’s military scholars a forum to share information and experience as well as put forth new solutions and initiatives for addressing security challenges.

Vietnam, as the ASEAN Chair, hopes that all the member countries will devotedly propose new ideas to speed up the Association’s military linkages and progress on building the political-security community for peace, friendship and development in the region.

Deputy Minister of National Defense, Lieutenant-General Nguyen Chi Vinh chaired the meeting.
