The State Bank must consistently implement constructive credit policy measures, stabilize macro-economy, curb inflation and boost the economic growth, PM Nguyen Tan Dung urged.

The State Bank must consistently implement constructive credit policy measures, stabilize macro-economy, curb inflation and boost the economic growth, PM Nguyen Tan Dung urged.

According to the Government's website, the remark was made at the working session between PM Nguyen Tan Dung and the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) on April 20 to discuss on the institution’s role, responsibility and function as it takes the lead in driving the national economy to meet the 2010 GDP growth target of 6.5%.

Addressing the session, the PM applauded the economic contributions which the banking sector has made during Q1 of this year, especially in maintaining a GDP growth of 5.83 %, stabilizing macro-economy and social security, and lowering the market interest rate.

However, the leader said that the SBV must continue focusing on the constructive credit policies to guarantee the credit growth and the total means of payment at respectively 25% and 20%. At the same time, the banking sector must apply new measures to improve the credit qualification and financial capacity of credit institutions.

The State Bank needs to instruct its commercial banks to actively offer supportive banking loans to production and business projects, the PM stressed.

As a main implementer of the Government’s resolution, the SBV has to supervise the country’s foreign currency market, the consumer price index, financial scale, trade deficit and foreign investment. It has to frequently update and inform the public about the Government’s socio-economic policies.

The working session was attended by Governor of the State Bank Nguyen Van Giau, Minister of Finance Vu Van Ninh, Minister of Industry and Trade Vu Huy Hoang, senior leaders of the Government Office, the Ministry of Planning and Investment, the National Finance Supervisory Commission and other representatives of state-owned commercial banks.
