Many central locations in Hanoi will be decorated with lights, trees, flowers and banners to celebrate the 1000th anniversary of the city this October. VND 42 billion (2.2 million USD) has been invested into the lighting system alone.

The decorative lighting project in preparation for the big ceremony has been tested since Tet in February, which includes many architectually famous buildings, green trees, frame patterns, slogans, fountain lights, all lit with the most advanced lighting systems such as LED, automatically changing lights, and an underground lighting system.
Lights have been placed in 15 locations around Hoan Kiem Lake, 4 around West Lake, 6 around the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum and Ba Dinh Square, Thien Quang Lake, National Convention Centre, and 22 main routes, have been installed and operated frequently every weekend from now until the big anniversary.
During the Tet holidays, an amount of VND 18.5 billion (965,000 USD) was invested for the lighting system's installment in the areas, which marked an advancement in modernity and progress for the city. However, the Hanoi authorities suggested the lighting must be arranged on a larger scale for the 1000th anniversary of the city.
About 200 more LED lights were installed and hung on trees around Hoan Kiem Lake, 7 more fountain lights were installed, and many other light decorations on main streets.
In addition, an amount of VND 6.7 billion (350,000 USD) will be invested for the completion of the decorative lighting project on the Unification Day and Labour Day April 30 - May 1 anniversary, and VND 16.8 billion (875,000 USD) for the Vietnam's National Day September 2. Thus, the total amount invested for the project is estimated to be VND 42 billion (2.2 million USD).
It was also reported that a large quantity of fresh flowers and silk flowers will be prepared during all the anniversaries and the 10 day celebration of Hanoi turning 1000 years old.
For the decoration of Hanoi, many companies and businesses, such as the Urban-infrastructure Development Investment Corporation (UDIC), Hanoi Hapro Trade Corporation, Hanoi Handico Housing Development and Investment Corporation, Tourism Corporation, Tan Tao and Viet Ha Groups, contributed their shares.
