State President Nguyen Minh Triet left Hanoi on April 10 for an official visit to Saudi Arabia at the invitation of King Abdullah Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud.
This is the first ever visit to the Middle East country by a Vietnamese head of State.
After Saudi Arabia, Mr Triet will visit the Republic of Tunisia and the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria.
The tour takes place at a time when Vietnam is accelerating economic recovery efforts, stabilize the macro economy, curb runaway inflation and ensure social security. It is integrating into the global economy and is currently chairing the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).
Saudi Arabia, Tunisia and Algeria have large amounts of oil reserves in the world. They are all carrying out the Look East policy by fostering relations with countries in Asia, including Vietnam.
The tour aims to strengthen friendship and cooperation with the three countries, especially in economics, trade and investment.
