Plastic tubes, commonly referred to by people as “snakes”, are scattered along sidewalks and creating accident hazards for pedestrians.
At the request of the People’s Committee of Hanoi, electric and telecommunication wires on over 30 streets in Hanoi were put underground in preparation for the 1,000 year Thang Long Anniversary of Hanoi.
However, the process has been delayed causing serious inconvenience and safety dangers for people. It has also negatively effected the city’s image and environmental hygiene.
Tu, living on Quan Thanh Street, Ba Dinh District said, “Workers dug the road and pavement to place wires but plastic tubes left lying around make it difficult for passersby to get around. We called these tubes "snakes".”
Quan Thanh is known as one of the streets covered with “snakes” .
