At 9 o'clock in the morning, local police forces coordinated with other authorities and simultaneously busted in on 45 year-old Nguyen Thi Mai's house, in Thanh Chu Hamlet, Huong An Commune, Huong Tra District. The sudden search left no time for the owner or her assistants to hide the animal meat being cut in the kitchen.
Authorities proceeded to discover many hideouts and iron cages where rare animals such as salamanders, boars, snakes, monkeys, weasels, porcupines, turtles, civets and more were being kept.
Authorities discovered many animals that were still alive and also uncovered many that had already been marinated, stored in the freezer or sealed in package waiting to be delivered to restaurants and hotels.
According to Hue authorities, this is the largest establishment ever found in Hue storing wild animals. All live animals will be freed back into the wild as soon as possible and Nguyen Thi Mai will have to face serious disciplinary actions.
