Burst tumor could take life if no help arrives

Suffering from Hemophilia for long time, Mai Van Tinh, 28, is in very real danger of death.

Without money, Tinh, living at Tien Lang, Hai Phong City was forced to live with hemophilia since he was small. He also has a tumor in his right rib. Tinh suffers from severe pain because the tumor burst and is likely to cause his death if he cannot be operated on immediately.

Tinh’s family doesn’t have enough money to properly treat his hemophilia. Without proper treatment, his tumor has grown so large that he has lost his balance. “The huge tumor has made it difficult for Tinh to move around or even do personal things. He is trying to work as a barber for living,” said Tinh’s father.

On March 13,the tumor suddenly burst causing bleeding and making it necessary for him to go to the hospital for treatment.

Doctors said that he needs to take medicine to reduce the pain and it costs about VND16 million ($833). The medicine is not covered by insurance and his family cannot afford such a large sum of money to help.

“Doctors told us that my son has lost a lot of blood due to the bursting of the tumor, they also said that this can cause death and he needs to be operated on urgently. The operation fees are about VND100 million ($5,200). It costs a fortune for us. I never ever had this kind of money in my life. I can borrow some money but this is too much,” Tinh’s father worried.

Knowing that the patient is unable to raise the money, doctors in the hospital raised some money to help Tinh. It has proven very difficult to have enough money for his surgery. Tinh’s life is very fragile and an operation needs to be performed in an extremely timely fashion.

Hemophilia is a group of hereditary genetic disorders that impair the body's ability to control blood clotting or coagulation, which is used to stop bleeding when a blood vessel is broken.
