Police break up human trafficking ring

Police recommended Can Tho People’s Procuracy to prosecute 5 people involved in human trafficking.

The police of Can Tho Province have recommended to Provincal People’s Procuracy, to prosecute 5 people involved in human trafficking.

Nguyen Thi Thuy, leader of the human trafficking ring

The five are Nguyen Thi Thuy, who is the leader of the human trafficking ring and was living at Soc Trang City; Nguyen Thi Chinh, Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Nguyen Thi Ne, and Van Phu Ro, all of whom were living at Thot Not District in Can Tho City.

The investigation’s results revealed that by February 2008, Thuy knew Ne and Chinh when she came to Ho Chi Minh City for a visa to Taiwan. After that, Thuy flew to Malaysia to practise prostitution.

In March 2008, Thuy contacted Ne and suggested that Ne should cooperate with her to find young and pretty girls and then bring them to Malaysia for prostitution. In turn, Thuy would pay Ne $500 per girl.

Ne found that it was so easy to earn money that she asked Chinh, Diep and Ro to join her. They preyed on poor and innocent young girls, promising good jobs and a life in Malaysia. The victims were told that their passports and visa expenditures would be covered and that there would be money given to the families.

In April 2008, Ne and her accomplices seduced 4 girls. On May 11, 2008, two of them were taken to Malaysia first and Ne’s group was paid $1,500. On May 20, 2008, Ne took the 2 remaining girls to Malaysia.

After sometime, one of the four girls came back home after her family paid a ransom and the 3 remaining girls were able to escape from the brothel and return to Vietnam. They went to the police and reported the case.

After an investigation, the police arrested Ne, Chinh, Diep, and Ro. Thuy was very cunning and elusive. She kept changing her residence and managed to avoid the police until finally being arrested by police on November 24, 2009. Thuy was arrested at the airport while trying to flee from Vietnam.
