Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung paid a Tet visit to the Can Tho Bridge construction site on February 19.

The My Thuan project management board and the Japanese contractor said the construction of the four-lane bridge - the longest cable-stayed bridge in Southeast Asia - is nearly finished.

Mr Dung described Can Tho Bridge as “the pride of Vietnam”. When it is put into operation it will boost the socio-economic development of the southern provinces with a population of more than 16 million people and stimulate exchanges between Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong Delta provinces by reducing travel time between the two banks of the Hau River.
