Police stopped a car carrying 92 kilograms of unaccounted for gold and arrested the driver.
In the evening of February 4, police in Chau Thanh District, Tien Giang Province stopped a suspicious 7 seat vehicle, with plate No.67L-2029. The vehicle was on its way to Ho Chi Minh City when police asked the driver to stop and checked the car's registration papers.
When the inspection was being carried out, the Police discovered about 92 kilograms of gold. The driver could not produce any legitimate documents to prove the origin of the gold. The car was taken to the police station to be held upon a further investigation.
At the police station, the driver, named Tran Phi Toan, said that he was hired to carry the gold from An Giang to Ho Chi Minh City.
Speaking with DTiNews on the morning of February 5, colonel Nguyen Chi Phi, Director of Tien Giang Police, shared that police had confiscated the gold and the case would be further investigated.
